Man United set to make Roma ace their new midfield maestro
With Jose Mourinho all-but-confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager, the Portuguese boss is believed to already be targeting new Old Trafford arrivals, with Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic reportedly top of his list of targets.
The Bosnian international has impressed greatly in Serie A, finishing the last two seasons as the league’s highest assist-maker.
He also netted 12 times in all competitions in 2015-16, helping the Giallorossi reach the last 16 of the Champions League and secure a third-place spot in the Italian top-flight.
While the capital club may be keen to hold onto one of their top stars, Roma’s current financial situation means they may not be able to turn down a reasonable offer for the man valued at £26.25m by Transfermarkt.co.uk.
One of the main criticisms levelled at the Old Trafford outfit last season was a lack of dynamic midfielders – with the north-west giants scoring just 49 Premier League goals, their lowest top-flight total since 1989-90.
With that in mind, Pjanic could be the perfect acquisition for a Red Devils squad which boasts one of the country’s strongest defences but lacks the flair possessed by the former Metz man.
And Mourinho has the whole summer to try and tempt the 26-year-old to swap the Stadio Olimpico for the Stretford End, with Bosnia absent from Euro 2016.
Man United are 11/2 joint-third-favourites to win next season’s Premier League, and if Jose can add players of Pjanic’s quality to the Old Trafford roster this summer, the Reds could prove a very popular bet to land their 21st top-flight title.
