Man United and Chelsea battle it out to sign star Slovenian keeper

Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea both risk losing their current first-choice keepers – David De Gea and Thibaud Courtois – this summer. And both sides appear to have the same target in mind to solve their goalkeeping gap, in Inter Milan stopper Samir Handanovic.

The acrobatic keeper, affectionately nicknamed ‘Batmanovic’ by the Nerazzurri faithful, is enjoying the finest form of his career with 18 clean sheets for the San Siro outfit this summer.

Those displays have put clubs across Europe on high alert, but the Premier League looks the most likely option for the Slovenian keeper.

Handanovic is currently rated at £11.25m by Transfermarkt but word is that the former Udinese man could be available for as little as £6.3m, with Chelsea reportedly ready to launch a bid.

Arsenal have also been linked with the player. However, with Petr Cech having established himself in the Gunners’ side and Manchester United now almost certain to miss out on the top four, west London seems the more likely destination for the highly-rated 31-year-old.

Chelsea head to Liverpool tonight as 7/2 outsiders, though they’re unbeaten in their last four visits to Anfield, meaning they could prove a popular selection to win.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are 4/11 to beat Bournemouth this weekend, with victory representing the only chance of offering Handanovic – or other transfer targets – Champions League football at Old Trafford next year.
