Man City v Arsenal: Citizens must arrest recent Gunners woe

Published:

Having suffered defeat in the Champions League semi-finals in midweek, Manchester City must regroup this afternoon at home to Arsenal, with a place in Europe’s top competition far from secure for next season.

The Citizens currently occupy fourth in the Premier League, but Manchester United and West Ham still harbour hopes of snatching it away from them as Pep Guardiola prepares to take the reigns at Eastlands.

However, City haven’t enjoyed facing the Gunners recently, and their once imperious home record has deserted them too.

Arsenal are unbeaten in the last five meetings, winning each of the last two league encounters, and Arsene Wenger’s men are 9/5 to make it three in a row.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who have lost three of their last six home league games, are 7/5 for the win, while a draw is 12/5.

Sergio Aguero has failed to score in his last two games against the Gunners, but the Argentine has netted seven times in his last five Premier League appearances.

The in-form striker is 7/2 to grab the game’s opener, and Evens anytime.

Having endured a dismal start to 2016 as their title hopes unravelled, Arsenal have somewhat gathered it back together of late, going eight league games unbeaten.

That’s coincided with the return to form of Alexis Sanchez, with the Chilean ace scoring five in his last six appearances.

Sanchez is 15/2 to open the scoring and 5/2 anytime.

Both teams have scored in four of the last five Premier League clashes, and it’s 8/15 that Joe Hart and Petr Cech are both beaten.

With that in mind, we’re being generous on the chances of another goal fest.

We’re enhancing Man City to win and both teams to score from 11/4 to 7/2 AND Arsenal to win and both teams to score from 7/2 to 9/2.

Results elsewhere may see City safely through to next season’s Champions League, but with Pep on the way, the pressure is certainly on to make their place certain.
