Jose Mourinho odds-on to get Man United into top-four next season

Published:

Following Louis van Gaal’s sacking by Manchester United this morning, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is all-but-confirmed as the new man at the Old Trafford helm, and the Portuguese boss is set to deliver a return to Europe’s club competition.

United fans voiced their displeasure at the club’s league form throughout the season, but while the departed Dutchman could only guide his side to fifth place last time out, it’s 1/2 that they make the top-four cut next season.

That’s a feat Mourinho managed in all five of his full seasons at Stamford Bridge.

However, despite the likelihood of bringing Champions League football back to the red half of Manchester, it’s 4/6 that the 53-year-old will fail to match Louis van Gaal’s recent cup achievements by not winning a trophy in 2016-17.

Meanwhile, those who fancy backing the enigmatic gaffer to hit the ground running with a trophy in his first season can do so at 11/10.

One place United’s results are likely to improve is at Old Trafford. Mourinho went an incredible nine years without losing a home league game between 2002-2011, and it’s 9/2 that the Red Devils don’t lose a home Premier League game next season.

And before next season begins, there’s still plenty of speculation as to when the Portuguese boss will deliver his first press conference as the north-west giants’ new boss, with 10/11 saying he’ll have done so by the end of May – so watch this space!
