Jose Mourinho could reunite with Napoli star at Manchester United

With Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Manchester United seemingly imminent, the Portuguese boss already seems to be targeting new arrivals, with a reunion with Gonzalo Higuain believed to be high on his list of priorities.

The Argentine striker enjoyed the best scoring season of his career with Napoli in 2015-16, netting an astonishing 36 times in 35 Serie A outings. However, the lure of a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho could prove too tempting to turn down.

Higuain spent three seasons under the Portuguese coach at Real Madrid, enjoying some of his most prolific spells in La Liga, and with the Red Devils having struggled for goals last season, their new manager appears to have identified the solution.

The 28-year-old hitman is valued at £43m by transfermarkt.co.uk, but while it’s a hefty sum, United are willing to spend big on their top targets, as the signings of Anthony Martial and Angel Di Maria have proved.

And Mourinho may look to act quickly, with the Argentina international likely to boost his price tag at this summer’s Copa America.

La Albiceleste are 4/7 to win Group D – ahead of Chile, Panama and Bolivia – while 2/1 says they lift the coveted trophy for the first time since 1993.
