John Hughes named Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month

Published:

Inverness boss John Hughes has been named Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month for April after guiding the Caley Jags to 10 points from a possible 15.

The Caley Jags ensured a successful April despite starting the month off in disappointing fashion, losing 2-1 at home to Motherwell with just Iain Vigurs’ 70th-minute penalty to show for their efforts. (original sounds too downbeat)

Hughes ensured his team bounced back from that disappointment in style with Vigurs once again on the scoresheet alongside Miles Storey as Thistle ran out 2-0 winner away to a Dundee United outfit then fighting for survival.

That triumph was followed up by a credible 0-0 draw with third-placed Hearts and things got even better from there with emphatic wins over Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle.

Killie actually took the lead at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, with Kallum Higginbotham putting the visitors 1-0 up before the break.

However, Caley were handed a way back into the game when Jamie McDonald received his marching orders and once Greg Tansey scored the resulting penalty the game was only going one way.

Ross Draper ensured the win on 73 minutes and Danny Williams put the icing on the cake just three minutes later.

The three goals ICT managed against Killie was bettered next time out however, with Hughes masterminding a 4-1 away win over Partick.

Caley were at it from the off this time round and went 1-0 up after just 14 minutes through Carl Tremarco.

A relentless second half saw Storey and Josh Meekings put the result beyond doubt with Kris Doolan’s goal for the Glaswegians only a consolation.
