History shows Falkirk will slip up against Kilmarnock

Published:

Falkirk go into the second leg of their Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership promotion play-off with Kilmarnock holding a 1-0 advantage.

The Bairns are 4/5 favourites to seal promotion, but a worrying trend for the Lowlands side suggests Kilmarnock will come good on their 13/8 odds.

This is Doug Henderson’s side’s seventh play-off match since the format was reintroduced for the 2013/14 campaign.

In that time, they have won three games, drawn two and lost two.

Particularly, troubling for Falkirk is the fact that they have never won both legs of a tie while competing for promotion.

Furthermore, their meeting with Hibernian in the semi-final of this year’s competition is the only time they have gone unbeaten over both legs.

Therefore, it would be wise to expect Kilmarnock to pick up victory in their upcoming clash and this can be backed at 23/20.

A 2-0 win would be enough to see Killie stay in the top flight and there is enough reason to believe this will happen.

Falkirk let in two at Easter Road in their last away encounter and also did so against Queen of the South in the quarter final of the 2013/14 play-offs.

Backing Lee Clark’s men to get this desired result comes in at 9/1.

When looking who will do the damage for Kilmarnock, it’s hard to look beyond Kallum Higginbotham.

The 26-year-old striker has scored in two of his team’s last four outings and can be a dangerous forward when given the chance to do so.

Thus, the Bairns’ less-than-stellar defensive record should allow him to cause them problems and it seems plausible that he will find the net.

Backing the Englishman to score at any time is priced at 23/10.
