Haye to take his time with Gjergjag victory

David Haye comes into his bout with Arnold Gjergjag leaner than when he defeated Mark de Mori in his comeback fight.
The Brit is clearly taking on the advice of Lennox Lewis who said he needed to recapture his famous speed as he makes his tentative steps back into boxing.
In his quest to recapture a heavyweight world title, Haye will need to shake off any lingering ring rust and is looking to this encounter with the undefeated Swiss fighter to get some much needed time between the ropes.
As Haye himself pointed out in the run up to the fight: “I’ve had two minutes of ring action in four years which isn’t ideal but I’m ready to do what needs to be done.
“I want a 10-round fight and I want to really have to figure out some puzzles in there and dig deep.”
However, it is highly unlikely that this match will go the full 10 rounds.
Haye has only gone the distance in three bouts throughout his career, beating Ismail Abdoul by unanimous decision, conquering Nikolai Valuev by majority decision and losing to Wladimir Klitschko by UD.
Indeed, his heavy-hitting has ensured he has never had a fight ended in the 10th round and don’t expect this to change against Gjergjag.
Although undefeated, the 31-year-old has never faced anyone of the calibre of the former champion, with his last opponent, Marino Goles, ranked 135th in the world.
A price of 1/50 reflects Haye as the overwhelming, while it is also unlikely Gjergjag will take the Bermondsey-born boxer to the end.
The Hayemaker has won two of his last three 10-round in the fifth and it would be sensible to back this to happen again at 12/1.
