Frank de Boer favourite to replace sacked Martinez at Everton

Frank de Boer is the early frontrunner to replace sacked Everton manager Roberto Martinez, according to the Ladbrokes trading floor.

Spaniard Martinez was given his marching orders by the Toffees board earlier today after seeing his side completely outplayed in the 3-0 defeat to then-relegation threatened Sunderland.

The Black Cats loss was the latest in a run of dismal displays but things could be on the up with four-time Eredivisie winner De Boer odds-on to take over.

De Boer recently ended his six-year managerial stay with Ajax and his newfound availability has seen him chalked up at 4/11 to replace Martinez.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes is next in the betting but at 5/1 seems way behind the Dutchman in the pecking order, while Manuel Pellegrini is also at the sharp end of the betting at 7/1.

A return for fan favourite David Moyes is priced up at 16/1 but the chances of persuading Liverpool legend Rafa Benitez to take the helm look slim, with the relegated Newcastle manager priced up at 16/1.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It’s always been a case of when and not if Martinez was going to be sacked, and the odds now suggest snappers should head to the arrivals hall at Liverpool airport as soon as possible.”

The Toffees will get a chance to show any prospective new manager that they haven’t forgotten how to win when they welcome relegated Norwich City to Goodison Park on the final day of the season.

Everton go into the game as 3/4 favourites, while the draw is on at 14/5 and a Canaries win is available at 7/2.
