Flying Frankie bids for final day success onboard Officer

Published:

This year’s Dante Festival has already been an extremely successful showcase for Ladbrokes racing ambassador Frankie Dettori but our man might not be done just yet.

The World’s Best Jockey has another set of plum rides on the final day of the meeting at York with Gold Cup hopeful Flying Officer his mount in today’s feature contest.

The favourite for the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup at 16:05 has already laid down his long-distance credentials when finishing a game third in last month’s Sagaro Stakes.

And following high-profile successes in the Musidora and the Dante, this victory would be the icing on the cake and a fitting culmination to what’s been an extraordinary week for the Italian.

Flying Officer finished behind re-opposing rival Clever Cookie last time out but with a 5lb pull in the weights the John Gosden-trained stayer is looking good to reverse that form.

Luca Cumani’s Second Step is another to watch out for but this will be only the second time he’s tackled this trip.

Noseda’s Nemoralia is another Frankie fav

Before the Yorkshire Cup Frankie will hop onboard talented filly Nemoralia for an assault on the Longines Irish Champion Weekend Fillies’ Stakes at 15:30.

Jeremy Noseda’s charge put some decent form on the table over the autumn with her runner-up placing in a Grade 1 event at Belmont and Breeders’s Cup-third both eye-catching.

There are a few progressive types who could threaten Nemoralia’s big race bid, most notably Thetis and Czabo.

However, Noseda is feeling confident ahead of the Listed contest.

He told the Racing Post: “She’s in good nick. She’ll improve a bit for the outing but should run a big race. She has the best form and the trip, track and ground will suit so, fingers crossed, we’re expecting a good performance.”

Frankie’s other rides today are Dheban (14:20), Amlak (14:55) and Fire Fighting (16:40).
