Five of the most bonkers Premier League final day results

Amazingly it’s already that time of year again, as another bonkers Premier League season comes to an end, and what a campaign it has been. Leicester are champions, Chelsea are outside the top eight, while Aston Villa and Newcastle are down.

But there’s still one final round of games to go and that means there’s every chance for some crazy results.

Let’s be honest, half of the players are already debating between Ibiza or Marbella for their summer holidays.

We aren’t chatting about final day escapes here, just five of the most bonkers final day fixtures.

There’s only one place to start, and that’s at the Hawthorns…

West Brom 5-5 Man Utd – 2013

The only 5-5 game in the Premier League and Sir Alex Ferguson managerial history.

Sir Alex was closing the book on his career at the top, having dominated the game for over 30 years.

His Manchester United team looked to be providing the perfect send-off as the Red Devils raced into a 3-0 lead after half an hour and a 5-2 advantage after 60 minutes.

But the Baggies scored twice in a minute to bring it to 5-4, before Romelu Lukaku ensured a unique draw in the dying moments to claim a hat-trick.

Fulham 6-0 Norwich 2005

On the day made famous by West Brom’s great escape. Norwich, err, showed rather less fight.

Needing a win to avoid the drop, the Canaries simply capitulated at Fulham, themselves only recently safe.

7,000 Canaries made the trip to Craven Cottage, but they probably wished they hadn’t.

A 2-0 lead for the Cottagers at half-time turned into a second-half riot as Norwich went down in the most feeble fashion.

Man City 1-1 Middlesbrough 2005

At the same time as West Brom were performing heroics and Norwich were plummeting, then-Man City boss Stuart Pearce had a cunning plan.

With City needing a win to bag European football at Middlesbrough’s expense, the Pearce took off Claudio Reyna for substitute goalie Stuart Taylor.

Pyscho was sticking David James up front with Taylor in net. What does that say about £5m striker Jon Macken, left on the bench?

The tactic almost worked to be fair. City won a penalty in stoppage time, but Robbie Fowler’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Mark Schwarzer as James clattered into everything and everyone.

Chelsea 8-0 Wigan 2010

To be fair to Wigan, they were already safe. But still, the season wasn’t over.

Chelsea needed a win to clinch another Premier League title, and having already hit seven goals in three previous matches, had plenty of firepower to do so in style.

The Blues were 2-0 up at half-time, before a storming four goals in 12 minutes left Wigan reeling.

Two more strikes late on ensured Latics fans would have been better off seeing the sights of the capital.

Stoke 6-1 Liverpool 2015

Steven Gerrard, look away now.

What was supposed to be the great midfielder’s Liverpool swansong turned into a complete nightmare.

Having come so close to the Premier League title 12 months before, the Reds had been nowhere the following year, but at least they could give their talismanic skipper a fine send-off, right?

Liverpool never knew what hit them. Stoke were 5-0 up by half-time and most Potters fans had spilled their teas from all the celebrations.

Stevie G did net a consolation in the second period, but Stoke were in no mood for generosity as Peter Crouch netted the sixth in the final minutes. Ouch.
