Derby v Hull: Poor-travelling Tigers may be in trouble again

Published:

The chase for that multi-million pound ticket into the Premier League continues with Derby hosting Hull this afternoon, and for the visitors it’s a case of rapidly improving their recent away form.

Steve Bruce’s Tigers finished one spot and five points above Darren Wassall’s Rams in the league, but the Yorkshire club won just one of their final six away games.

That included a trip to the iPro stadium, where they were pummelled 4-0 by County.

That was only five weeks ago, so how much has changed?

Derby tailed off following that win, cruising past doomed Bolton 4-1 before failing to beat either Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton or Ipswich in the remaining ties.

Hull responded to that hammering in Derbyshire by going on a five-game unbeaten spell, oddly broken by a 1-0 loss at Bolton, before thrashing fellow Yorkshiremen Rotherham 5-1 on the final day.

Derby actually won both meetings with Hull this term, claiming a 2-0 success at the Hull City Stadium in November, and they’re 7/5 to make it three on the spin.

A draw is 2/1 while an away victory can be backed at 21/10.

With play-off fever in full force, we’re enhancing Derby to win and both teams to score from 4/1 to 5/1.

Chris Martin looks like he’s due a goal after going six games without one, and the Englishman is 9/2 to open the scoring this afternoon.

Johnny Russell hit four in three games in April, but with just nine goals all season is he worth a punt to come good again at 7/1 to score first?

Abel Hernandez is the form man as far as Hull are concerned, with the Uruguayan bagging 22 for the season including four goals in the last five games, and he’s 5/1 to net first.

Play-off time is the time for heroes, but who will step up this afternoon?
