Cloth Of Stars and his chances of Epsom Derby success

It seems somewhat surreal that the famous blue silks of Godolphin have never been carried to Epsom Derby victory.
The best chance of this sequence coming to an end in 2016 is through the Andre Fabre-trained Cloth Of Stars, who heads to Epsom with the virtually ideal Derby preparation.
He saw the track four times as a two-year-old with mixed results, although he did gain suitable experience in France, particularly in terms of getting used to settling in his races.
There was always the potential that he would improve this season and this has proven the case with back-to-back victories in Group contests at Saint-Cloud. The latest came in the Prix Greffulhe.
Interestingly, these were the same two French races that were won by Pour Moi in 2011 before Fabre brought him to Epsom to win the Derby.
The positives for Cloth Of Stars are his experience, comments from Fabre that he is sure to see out the 1m4f distance and the searing cruising speed that he possesses, which should prevent him getting caught for pace at a critical point of the race.
Cloth Of Stars looks about the right price for Derby glory at 6/1, especially now that he has been supplemented for the race at a cost by connections.
