The upcoming summer could be a career-defining one for Arsene Wenger, as he looks to get Arsenal back to trophy-winning ways, and if reports across the Channel are to be believed, the Frenchman has earmarked his priority signing.

French news outlet L’Equipe have claimed this week that Wenger has made Leicester hero N’Golo Kante his number one acquisition, with the 25-year-old’s tireless work ethic something Arsenal could significantly benefit from.

That’s supported by Le Parisien, who are reporting that the French international isn’t interested in a move back to Ligue 1, but would consider a switch within the Premier League.

Speculation has been mounting regarding Kante’s future, following his repeatedly excellent performances for Claudio Ranieri’s title-winning Foxes.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been strongly linked with the midfielder too, but with both sides set to miss out on Champions League football next term, it seems unlikely Kante would consider either club as a step up right now.

Of course, Leicester are in Europe’s top club competition next year too – and as top seeds – but even that might not be enough to turn Kante away from a big money move to the capital.

Wenger is set to go big this summer too, having seen his decision to not sign a single outfield player last season massively backfire.

A host of midfielders are set to exit the Emirates at the end of the campaign, which should help the Arsenal boss make sweeping changes in an area where they’ve lacked that extra quality.

Arguably the best central midfielder of the season, signing Kante would go a long way to solving Arsenal’s woes.
