Arsenal plotting £60m double raid for Leicester duo

It’s set to be one of the most expensive, unpredictable and headline-grabbing transfer windows of all time, and Arsenal look keen to get the ball rolling with a £60m double-signing for two Premier League champions.

The Gunners have frequently been linked with Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, but this week it’s believed Arsene Wenger is preparing to test Leicester’s resolve with a £60m deal for land both men.

With Theo Walcott seemingly heading for a £20m move to West Ham helping to soften the financial blow, this seems to be the summer where Wenger makes monumental changes after years of failing to land the top prizes.

Successive FA Cup wins kept things ticking over, albeit with an undercurrent of disgruntlement at the Emirates, but Gooners weren’t afraid to let their feelings become known this season once Arsenal’s trophy-hopes evaporated in spring.

It seems Wenger has realised change is urgently required too, and according to France Football, Arsenal have already contacted the Leicester hierarchy about Mahrez and Kante.

PFA Player of the Year Mahrez is believed to set the Gunners back some £40m, with Kante making up the rest.

With Walcott seemingly at the end of his Arsenal tenure, and similar concerns looming over Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsenal fans look set to watch a very different team next term, with Granit Xhaka homing in on a move from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky are all heading for the exit at the Emirates too, with Wenger hoping Kante can pair up alongside Francis Coquelin.

Before any signings are made however, Arsenal have the chance to maintain their local bragging rights for another year, thanks to Tottenham’s recent implosion.

Arsenal are 1/6 to beat the long-since doomed Aston Villa on Sunday, and a win would mean Tottenham must avoid defeat away at Newcastle if they want to finish as north London’s best for the first time since 1995.
