Upcoming games give Tottenham chance to unseat Leicester

Leicester City’s 4-0 win over Swansea City in their last outing moved them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, but don’t count Tottenham Hotspur out just yet.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have a game in hand on the Foxes, against out-of-form West Bromwich Albion tonight, and should be able to once again narrow the gap.

The Baggies have lost four of their last five matches, drawing the other, and Spurs, who have won four of their previous five, should have little trouble coming good on their 2/9 price of victory.

Furthermore, if you look at the north Londoners’ remaining fixtures, it seems highly likely that they will collect maximum points between now and the end of the season, which can be backed at 4/1.

First up after Tony Pulis’ side is a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, with the Blues tasting defeat in two of their last three outings.

While it is true that Tottenham haven’t won in the home of their London rivals since 1990, they have also marked this season as one where they end unfavourable records.

For example, before the 3-0 trouncing this campaign, they hadn’t beat Manchester United at White Hart Lane in 14 attempts and, with the champions losing as many times as they have won in front of their fans this term, this is the perfect time to end another poor run.

After Chelsea they face Southampton, who they defeated 2-0 at St Mary’s earlier in the season, and Newcastle United and, considering Spurs have won seven in a row against teams in the bottom half, you would expect them to beat the Magpies.

That would leave Harry Kane and company on 80 points so, due to owning a superior goal difference, they would need Leicester, currently on 76 to drop five points in their last three matches.

A win, a loss and a draw in the Foxes’ remaining fixtures would give Pochettino’s outfit the chance to take the title and, as the league leaders have gone on such a run before, this isn’t out of the realms of possibility.

Indeed, the Midlanders went on to win and draw the games after their Valentine’s Day loss to Arsenal so, with Man Utd, Everton and Chelsea up next for Claudio Ranieri’s men, it is entirely plausible that Tottenham fans will be able to celebrate.

Leicester drew with the Red Devils earlier in the season, while they also tasted defeat in their last trip to Old Trafford as well as their most recent encounter against a team in the top five.

Furthermore, draws with the likes of West Brom, Aston Villa and Bournemouth show the champions-elect are susceptible to dropping points against opponents a long way below them, and teams with the quality Chelsea and the Toffees possess should cause problems.
