Unification bout awaits with James DeGale set to blow Medina away

James DeGale steps into the ring in an attempt to retain his IBF Super-Middleweight title this weekend and the Brit should breeze through the defence.
That is the view from the Ladbrokes trading floor, with Chunky priced up at 1/20 to beat Mexico’s Rogelio Medina.
The man nicknamed Porky is deemed the 9/1 outsider and our very own Charles McDougall believes Olympic gold medalist DeGale can already start looking toward a unification bout with WBC Super-ChampionBadou Jack, who fight on the undercard at the DC Armory in Washington on May 1.
The Senior Sports Trader said: “Medina will be a typically-durable opponent, but DeGale should be able to wear him down and look for a stoppage victory anytime from round seven onwards.
“The only danger is the fact that DeGale has been known to lose focus during fights and make life harder for himself. You would expect him to be wanting to put on a performance worthy of a World Champion though, so hopefully he will get the job done in some style.”
Jack faces Lucian Bute before the main event and having beaten his last four opponents, including Britain’s George Groves, there will be plenty of intrigue in a meeting with DeGale should both fighters come through their respective bouts.
“It makes sense for all involved that if DeGale and Jack win then they will fight each other next to unify their belts,” McDougall added.
“DeGale has suggested he would love the fight to be in England, but as always in boxing it will be where it will be most financially successful for all concerned.”
Jack is priced up at 1/4 to beat Bute, who DeGale defeated on points last time out, so those hoping for a unification bout shouldn’t have to wait too much longer.
