Tottenham could swoop for Leverkusen keeper in cut-price deal

Tottenham could boost their goalkeeping ranks ahead of next year’s Champions League after identifying a Bundesliga ace as a potential transfer target.

Bernd Leno has impressed between the sticks for Bayer Leverkusen, with the BayArena club currently sitting third in the Bundesliga.

Tottenham are favourites to secure Leno’s signature at 2/1, and they’re likely to move quickly to get their man.

The player currently has a £12.5m release clause, which expires this weekend, meaning Spurs have a short window in which to snap up the former VfB Stuttgart man at a snip of the price he would command in the summer months.

Liverpool are second-favourites at 6/1, while their north-west rivals Manchester United are 8s to acquire Leno, with David de Gea’s Old Trafford future seemingly uncertain.

Arsenal (8/1) and Stoke City (10/1) are also rumoured to be interested in the rangy 24-year-old, who has kept 14 clean sheets for Leverkusen so far this season.

And that form will not have gone unnoticed by Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, who is 8/1 to poach the stopper from their domestic rivals.

Tottenham travel to Chelsea on Monday night, with Spurs 7/5 to notch their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1990.
