Super League: Leeds and Huddersfield get back to winning ways

Huddersfield Giants and Leeds Rhinos both recorded hugely important wins as they look to kick-start their floundering Super League seasons.
Before the latest round of Super League action, Huddersfield and Leeds took up the bottom two spots in the table and faced tough home ties against Warrington Wolves and Hull FC respectively. But, both sides pulled out a performance when they needed it most, securing the two points that they hope will be the start of a climb up the ladder.
Paul Anderson’s Giants got their first win in six games as they saw off league leaders Warrington 11-0 at a rain-soaked John Smith’s Stadium, with half-back Danny Brough back to his best to inspire the Giants to victory.
The win was just their second of the season – and they remain bottom of the league – but it will give them great confidence as they head into an incredibly tough period, with Wigan, Leeds, Catalans and St Helens their next four opponents in the league.
Leeds also defied the form book with their hard-fought 20-18 win over Hull FC at Headingley, with the win moving them above Hull KR into 10th spot. Their upcoming fixtures are just as unforgiving as Huddersfield’s but Brian McDermott will be hoping this win breeds confidence for the champions.
Kicking off the round on Thursday were St Helens and Catalans, and once again the Dragons proved they are most definitely a forced to be reckoned with in 2016, as they claimed an impressive 30-12 win away at the Saints to go level at the top alongside Warrington and Wigan.
Jodie Broughton grabbed the headlines for the Dragons with four tries, taking his tally to 11 in just nine appearance since making the move to the south of France from Huddersfield at the end of last season.
Wigan join Warrington and Catalans on 16 points at the top of the Super League after coming from behind to defeat Castleford 26-12. Following their thrashing by Wakefield last weekend, Wigan needed a result and a brace from John Bateman helped them get just that, making it a three-way split at the top of the table.
