Returning Rodgers favourite to be next man in the Swansea hotseat

Published:

Brendan Rodgers delivered Swansea City’s first taste of Premier League football, and the Northern Irishman looks likely to make a sensational return to the Liberty Stadium, with current boss Francesco Guidolin’s short-term contract ending this summer.

The former Liverpool boss spent two successful seasons with the Swans from 2010-12, and he’s the 2/1 favourite to be the next man at the Swansea helm.

Having delivered promotion from the Championship, Rodgers steered the south Wales club to an 11th-placed finish in the top-flight during his first spell.

With Guidolin likely to exit, the one-time LMA Manager of the Year may be tempted by a return to a club which holds happy memories.

Nigel Pearson is next in the running, with the two-time Leicester gaffer 5/1 to return to the Premier League as Swans boss. 6/1 shot David Moyes has been linked with several vacant managerial roles in recent days, but may plump for the stable Swansea post.

Paul Clement and Gus Poyet are 10s apiece, with the experienced Steve McClaren available at 12/1.

While the smart money appears to be on a Rodgers homecoming, another former Swans boss Gary Monk is highly unlikely to return to his old role at 25/1.

Neil Warnock, who has worked wonders with Rotherham United, meanwhile, is the rank outsider at 33/1.

Swansea are next in action on Sunday as they head to title favourites Leicester. It’s 4/1 for a Swans victory, with the Foxes 3/4 and a draw at 5/2. The home side has won in seven of the last meetings, a trend the Welsh club will be keen to halt this weekend.
