Rangers set to squeeze past improving Alloa at Ibrox

Published:

A quick glance at the Ladbrokes Championship table may give you the impression that Rangers hosting Alloa is the definition of a ‘home banker’. However, recent form suggests Mark Warburton’s side may not find victory tomorrow to be a mere formality.

Admittedly, the hosts are hot favourites to win at Ibrox, as has been the case all this season. They’ve won all but one of their home games in the Ladbrokes Championship this season, with a draw against Morton the only blot in their copybook.

However, after a difficult season which has ended in relegation, the Wasps have been given fans something to cheer about.

Unbeaten in three games, they head to Ibrox on the back of draws at Livingston and Queen of the South, and victory over Hibs – the club who defeated the ‘Gers in midweek.

While Rangers have an imposing record against almost every team in this league, they’ve only actually won four of their last eight meetings against the Wasps, who recorded a draw on both trips to Ibrox last season.

The ‘Gers have netted 12 times in their last five Championship games, but with the title wrapped up, Mark Warburton’s men have arguably taken their foot off the gas. Rangers experiencing two defeats and a draw in five league fixtures is form which will give Alloa hope.

Chances are the Light Blues, possessing the firepower of Kenny Miller and Martyn Waghorn – who boasts as many league goals as Alloa this season with 20 strikes – will prove too strong for their visitors, though the margin of victory may be narrower than many expect.

A draw might prove popular at 7/1, with the Clackmannanshire side boasting a respectable record at Ibrox, and currently unbeaten in April.

Rangers are 1/11 to record a 26th victory of this Ladbrokes Championship campaign, with a win for the Wasps available at the long odds of 17/1.
