Premier League giants set to battle it out for Benfica star

Published:

With runaway leaders Leicester City set to clinch the Premier League title, a summer of big spending from the traditional heavyweights – keen to reassert their dominance in English football – looks likely.

And one name on several top clubs’ radars is Renato Sanches.

The 18-year-old Lisbon native has burst into the Benfica first-team this season, and produced some enormously impressive displays for the current Primeira Liga leaders.

His club form has also been rewarded with two caps for Portugal so far in 2016, but attention from England may prise the talented midfielder away from his boyhood club.

Scouts from Manchester United and Arsenal have been watching the player, and the Red Devils are favourites to sign him at 4/1, with Arsenal 5/1 to swoop for the Eagles midfielder.

It’s 6/1 he heads to Benfica’s historic rivals Porto, which would certainly be a divisive move.

Incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is 8/1 to acquire the player valued at £7.5m by Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are a 10/1 shot to make Sanches a Spurs man, though they are likely to have Champions League football to offer the fledgling midfield magician.
