Marseille midfielder the object of Arsenal and Leicester affection
Premier League teams are queuing up to try and lure Marseille’s talented midfielder Mario Lemina to English shores this summer, with Arsenal and Leicester front of the line.
Lemina is currently on loan at Juventus, who have an option to make the deal permanent for just under £10m this summer.
However, the Gabon international has seen his career stall under Massimiliano Allegri in Turin, making only a handful of appearances for the Old Lady this term.
As such, Lemina seems set either to return to Marseille or head elsewhere, and that’s where Arsenal and Leicester are hoping to enter the fray.
Both teams could lay down many reasons for wanting to sign the 23-year-old, and it remains to be seen which, if either, will win his signature.
Very much Mr Versatile, Lemina has been played pretty much everywhere across defence and midfield, but is primarily a box-to-box man, often kicking off a counter-attack.
Lemina’s contract extends until 2018, but is valued at just £3m by transfermarkt.co.uk.
The Gabon international was scouted by West Ham and Liverpool last summer, before Juventus eventually swooped in with their loan offering.
But reports this week have put the Gunners and the Foxes at the top of the pecking order.
For the London side, they’re set to lose a host of midfield options this summer, including Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, while speculation remains over the future of Santi Cazorla and even Jack Wilshere.
For Leicester, they’re set for a summer fending off prying eyes from the established sides who will all be trying to snap up their now-acclaimed heroes like N’Golo Kante, Danny Drinkwater and Riyad Mahrez.
Claudio Ranieri himself has admitted he can’t be certain if all will stay should big offers come in, so the east Midlands club must keep looking forward, especially with Champions League football to look forward to.
