Leicester v So’ton: Low-scoring Saints in trouble at Foxes’ fortress

Published:

With one game per week from now until the end of the season on May 15, Leicester have no more distractions in their way between them and a famous Premier League title, just seven little matches.

Following the final international break of the campaign, the Foxes resume proceedings with a five-point gap over Tottenham and as odds-on favourites to claim a famous and historic title in May.

The break was a notable one for Claudio Ranieri’s men too, with midfield heroes Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante making their international debuts for England and France respectively.

And then there’s Jamie Vardy, who bagged twice for the Three Lions including a sumptuous flick in Berlin to bamboozle Germany’s human wall Manuel Neuer.

Leicester are 11/10 to see off Ronald Koeman’s Southampton, with the visitors 5/2 to hand a first home league loss to the hosts since September, so strong have the Foxes become on home soil.

Incredibly since Arsenal ran riot in a 5-2 win six months ago, Leicester have only conceded the same amount in the subsequent 11 Premier League ties, with Wes Morgan’s defence boasting seven clean sheets.

The East Midlands side have been incredibly difficult to break down of late, and with six clean sheets in their last seven home games, Ranieri’s men are 6/4 to help Kasper Schmeichel keep another and are 12/5 to win to nil.

Southampton have netted just eight goals in their last 12 away games in the league, and with Leicester winning four of their last five ties 1-0, a repeat can be backed at 11/2.

And who should the home hero be should that scoreline come up? Well look no further than the very much in-form Vardy.

The forward had played the team game in recent weeks, continuing to pester defences while netting just one in seven.

His international double at the weekend however showed us all that the former Fleetwood man is as sharp as ever, so ahead of the game we’re boosting Vardy to score and Leicester to win from 9/4 to 11/4.

No team has rolled Southampton over on their travels this season, and the Hampshire side have won at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford this term, but the statistics suggest they’ll have a hard time upsetting the Leicester fairytale.
