Leicester talisman is wanted to front up Arsenal overhaul

It seems nailed on that Riyad Mahrez will be named PFA Player of the Year, but what is not so clear is where the mercurial talent will be playing his football next season.

One of the chief protagonists in driving Leicester City to the cusp of the Premier League title, Mahrez is the very definition of hot property, with European champions Barcelona among the rumoured parties interested .

However, fresh revelations in a leading British tabloid have now placed the 17-goal Foxes maestro at the top of Arsene Wenger’s summer shopping list at the Emirates.

The Sun newspaper claim Arsenal’s boss is to ship out some of his own under-performing players, such as forward Theo Walcott, to make way for the likes of the 25-year-old Algeria international.

With his own squad once again failing to mount a sustained title bid, even in a year where the traditional Premier League frontrunners have been removed from the race, it seems Wenger will be left with no choice but to freshen up.

Prising Mahrez away from the King Power Stadium will be no mean feat.

Even if the former Le Havre winger isn’t contented to help his Foxes teammates in the Champions League next season or lured to the continent, then he will have the pick of the Premier League’s clubs.

Arsenal under Wenger may not be the most attractive prospect, considering yet another title chase has petered out.

The Gunners are at home to West Brom next and there are rumours that a large portion of Emirates regulars will shun the fixture in order to voice their discontent.

Some fans have grown disillusioned over Wenger’s prolonged failures to mount a proper bid for the Premier League or indeed Champions League.
