Ladbrokes SPFL: Sensational Stranraer stun champions at Stair Park

The drama showed no sign of letting up during another momentous weekend across the Ladbrokes SPFL. The Championship saw several excellent matches, while in League 1 a champion was slain, and in League 2, a new one was crowned.
We round up the action from all three divisions…
Ladbrokes Championship
Alloa had given fans at the Indodrill Stadium something to cheer about with a recent victory over Hibs, and they followed that achievement up with a respectable 2-2 draw against Queen of the South on Saturday, with the Dumfries club relying on Dale Hilson’s late equaliser to rescue a point.
Raith Rovers underlined their credentials, which have seen them bag a play-off place, with a 3-2 win at Dumbarton. Having trailed, the Kirkcaldy club turned this game around with three goals in the space of 29 minutes.
And St. Mirren made it five wins in their last eight home games with Stephen Mallen securing the points in a 3-1 victory over local rivals Morton. That result leaves the sixth-placed Buddies just a point behind the Cappielow club.
Ladbrokes League 1
Stranraer blew Dunfermline’s 11-game unbeaten run to smithereens at the weekend, with the hosts recording a 4-1 triumph over the Ladbrokes League 1 champions. Ex-Pars man Andrew Stirling was among the Blues’ goalscorers, on a day which the usually imperious Fife club will want to forget.
Ayr United also netted four times at Stenhousemuir, with Michael Donald opening the scoring on a memorable day for the Honest Men, who also kept a clean sheet on their visit to Ochilview.
Elsewhere, Brechin City ejected themselves from the bottom of League 1 in impressive fashion, with Peterhead on the receiving end of a 5-1 thumping.
It marks a sixth win in eight games for a club who looked all-but-relegated at the end of February, but whose first five-goal haul since September 2014 is the latest chapter in a triumphant return to form.
Just two goals did the trick for Airdrieonians, who kept their faint play-off hopes alive at Forfar while Albion Rovers’ clash with Cowdenbeath ended without a goal.
Ladbrokes League 2
Congratulations are due to East Fife, who secured the Ladbrokes League 2 title after a 0-0 draw with nearest challengers Clyde, in front of a Broadwood crowd of 1,123.
It may not have been the goal fest expected from the teams who took to the field as the league’s highest scorers, but fans of the Methil club won’t mind one bit.
East Stirlingshire and Berwick Rangers each managed to return home from their away trips with three points in tow. Shire stunned Annan with a 3-1 victory while 10-man Berwick secured a last-gasp win at Arbroath, to the delight of the Borderers fans who made the long trip.
Elgin City played out a 1-1 draw against Queen’s Park at Borough Briggs, with the same scoreline as Montrose hosted Stirling Albion, with the Binos now unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with the men from Links Park.
