Ladbrokes SPFL: Peterhead look to secure second spot with Ayr win

Published:

Last weekend saw a goal glut in Ladbrokes League 1, with three different sides netting four or more times. Peterhead fell foul of five-goal Brechin at Glebe Park, but the Blue Toon can secure second spot with a win over the Ayr United at Balmoor.

In the Championship, Hibernian’s midweek win over Rangers means that Falkirk’s hold on second place is far from secure. Meanwhile, every play-off spot in League 2 is now up for grabs, with just one point separating Clyde in second spot from Elgin City in fifth.

Here’s a look at this weekend’s crucial games, as the season reaches ‘squeaky bum time’.

Ladbrokes Championship

Hibs travel to Morton, looking to exact revenge for the Greenock club’s 3-0 win at Easter Road in February. Hibs are 4/7 to claim victory, with the Ton 4/1 to defeat Alan Stubbs’ men again. Those who fancy history to repeat itself can back a 3-0 triumph for Morton at 100/1.

Queen of the South are 23/20 to beat Livingston in Dumfries, with the Lions 37/20. Dumbarton, meanwhile, can secure their second-tier safety with a win over St Mirren at 29/20, with the mid-table Buddies a 3/2 shot to win.

Raith Rovers welcome Falkirk, with the visitors trying to secure second spot. The in-form hosts are marginal favourites at 29/20 to win, with the Bairns a 3/2 shot.

Top faces bottom at Ibrox, but Alloa are unbeaten in three and may prove tricky customers for Rangers. The ‘Gers are 1/11 to win, with a draw 7/1 and a shock win for the Wasps at 17/1.

Ladbrokes League 1

Peterhead would secure second spot with victory over Ayr, at 21/20. The Blue Toon are on a run of three straight defeats, though, meaning a win for the Honest Men could prove popular at 2/1.

Airdrieonians won at East End Park in January and have two wins in their last three home games against Dunfermline, and the best bet here looks to be another Diamonds win, priced at 29/10. The Pars are 8/11 to notch up a victory, but they’ll have to improve drastically on last week’s mauling by Stranraer to do so.

Brechin City and Stranraer scored nine goals between them last weekend. A City victory is 19/10 with the Stair Park club 21/20 to bag the points. It’s 3s, meanwhile, that the game produces over 4.5 goals.

Elsewhere, Cowdenbeath look good to beat struggling Stenhousemuir at 9/10. Albion Rovers are the same odds to defeat Forfar in what looks like a home banker, with the basement-dwelling Loons managing one away win in 16 games.

Ladbrokes League 2

Arbroath are 4/5 to inflict an 11th away defeat of the season on Montrose at Gayfield. The best value looks to be with a draw though. These two have tied five of their last ten games combined, so another share of the spoils at 14/5 is likely to prove popular.

Play-off hopefuls Elgin are 2/5 to heap more misery on East Stirling with victory at Ochilview.

Champions East Fife look to end their travels on a high. They’re 10/11 to win at Berwick, and the Methil club have taken 10 points from their last four away games.

Annan look to secure their play-off place with a win at Stirling Albion. The borders club are 6/5, with Stirling 7/4 to triumph.

Draw specialists Queen’s Park are 23/20 to beat Clyde, with Barry Ferguson’s men 19/10, while you can back the Spiders to record a 12th draw of the season at 13/5.
