He’s Player of the Year, but no Ballon d’Or for Mahrez

Published:

He was named PFA Player of the Year at the weekend for his stunning performances this season, but Leicester ace Riyad Mahrez won’t be claiming next year’s Ballon d’Or.

The Algerian has been little short of sensational for the Foxes this term, and is seemingly on his way to becoming a Premier League title winner.

Mahrez has netted 17 goals in addition to 11 assists as 5,000/1 shots Leicester have swept all aside them in the league.

However, for all his achievements this season, the bookies don’t fancy Mahrez to wade in on Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or duel, with 80/1 the price on offer for the Leicester winger to win the 2016 award.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “In a team full of heroes, Riyad Mahrez has been Leicester’s stand-out star, but the Premier League’s Player of the Year isn’t in Ballon d’Or contention just yet.”

Mahrez can take his side one step closer to a famous Premier League title when they head to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Foxes are 13/5 for a victory at Old Trafford which would all but secure them the title.
