Free-falling Fulham face their biggest game of their season

Between them, Fulham and MK Dons have just a solitary win in the past ten games. Something has to give as the Championship’s lowest scorers visit the team with the division’s third-worst defensive record.
So, can Karl Robinson’s visitors build on their impressive 1-1 away draw at Hull City a fortnight ago? It was another vital away point, following on from the Dons’ clean sheet at The Valley, against a Charlton side who have shown a recent upturn in form.
In fact, the Dons have lost only twice in their past six away trips, while losing three times at home in the same period. The Bucks club managed a 1-0 triumph at Derby County last month, and are 11/1 to repeat that scoreline in tomorrow’s game.
Fulham’s recent plummet down the table has taken many by surprise. After three wins on the bounce in August and five games unbeaten in October, the Cottagers have won just three of their last 24 Championship games.
Ill-discipline has also started to creep in, with the side seeing two players dismissed during a single week in late February.
Defensively, the club based on the banks of the Thames, have been struggling to tread water. Having led in their last two home games, Fulham lost both – to Burnley and Bristol City respectively – in the last half-hour.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s defence need to work out how to keep their composure and shape throughout 90 minutes if they want to banish the threat of relegation.
The west London club are, however, blessed with arguably the Championship’s best player in Ross McCormack. They also have an excellent foil for the experienced striker in lively French attacker Moussa Dembele. Tom Cairney, a summer signing from Blackburn Rovers has impressed as well, netting seven goals from midfield.
On paper, at least, Fulham have a far better squad than their league position suggests. And if their star men are on song, even a few defensive hiccups are unlikely to prevent the Cottagers from beating Robinson’s workmanlike Dons team.
