Championship: Top two face off as Middlesbrough head to Burnley

Tonight’s full programme of Championship fixtures is set to have huge consequences at both ends of the table. Leaders Middlesbrough travel to second-placed Burnley in a crucial six-pointer while Charlton Athletic and MK Dons look to keep their survival hopes alive with victory on the road.

Boro are marginal favourites for the Turf Moor clash at 17/10, and this is a rare occasion where fans can back Burnley to win at home on odds as long as 9/5. The Lancashire club won 2-1 on Teesside in January, so the best value on this clash appears to be with the hosts.

Nearest challengers Brighton are hot favourites to win at home against QPR. The hosts have won five of their last six home games, with the Hoops failing to win away in their last seven. The Seagulls are 11/20 to triumph in what appears to be a home banker.

Down at the wrong end of the table, Charlton have to win at the Macron Stadium tonight and hope that other results go their way, to avoid the dreaded drop to League One. Relegated Bolton, though, have just one point from their last 10 games, meaning the visitors may be a popular pick at 6/4.

Karl Robinson’s MK Dons are also bidding to beat the drop, but the Buckinghamshire club are winless in seven, a fact reflected in the price of 7/1 for a Dons victory at Hillsborough. Promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday are 2/5.

Hull City have all but cemented their play-off spot, and are 21/20 to defeat Reading.

So too have Derby, with the East Midlands club 13/10 to take all three points at Bristol City. The Rams have netted four times on two occasions in April alone, and fans of the Pride Park club can back their side at 50/1 for a 4-0 win at Ashton Gate.

Neil Warnock has worked his magic at Rotherham United, and the Millers are realistically safe from relegation. Still, there’s the pride of a Yorkshire derby at stake tonight. Rotherham are 13/8 to win, with Huddersfield 8/5 and 23/10 for a draw.

The season has fizzled out for two former English champions, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest. Managerless Forest are 6/4 to win, with the Lancashire club 19/10.

In-form Leeds United are 7/5 to beat Wolves at Elland Road, with Ipswich 11/10 to do the business as they welcome Fulham to East Anglia.

Birmingham City, meanwhile, look to leapfrog the Tractor Boys with victory over Preston at 7/5.

And Cardiff City head to Griffin Park, where Brentford have red-hot Danish striker Lasse Vibe in their ranks. The Bees are 17/10 to win, with Vibe – who has five goals in his last four games – priced at 4/1 to score first.
