Arsenal to pull out the stops to land Bayern man

| 27.04.2016

There’s little argument that Arsenal need some major changes this summer if they’re going to return to title-winning ways, and Arsene Wenger is reportedly lining up one Bayern Munich player as part of their revival.

The Gunners have been linked this week with a move for Munich defender Rafinha, and despite hitting 31 later this year, Wenger is set to offer a three-year-deal in order to persuade the Brazilian to move.

Hector Bellerin has firmly made the right-back position his own at the Emirates, but Mathieu Debuchy is almost certainly departing the club this summer, while the jury is seemingly still out at Arsenal over Carl Jenkinson.

As such, Wenger could find himself a little light in that role next term, and Rafinha has just a year to go on his current Bayern deal so any agreed fee would be minimal given that and his age.

He’s still a regular at the Allianz Arena with 22 starts this term, but the two-time Brazilian international turns 31 in September, and it remains to be seen what incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti has planned when he takes over from Pep Guardiola.

Some have suggested part of Bayern’s plan is to offload Rafina as part of a swap deal with Hector Bellerin – a move which would surely draw exasperations from Gooners up and down the land.

In the mean time, Arsenal still have a top-four spot to land, and they can all but secure it this weekend when Norwich visit north London.

The Gunners are 1/4 for a first win in three games, with the Canaries 9/1 for a much-needed victory.
