2000 Guineas: Will the plunge on Galileo Gold be rewarded?

Air Force Blue may stand head and shoulders above any of his rivals in the 2000 Guineas betting, and arguably on the racecourse itself, but he won’t be without company if the latest market moves are to be believed.
The Hugo Palmer-trained Galileo Gold has been this year’s big steamer with the once relative outsider now the third favourite at 8/1.
To be sycophantic that’s perhaps no surprise given the fact that our very own racing ambassador and official World’s Best Jockey, Frankie Dettori, will be onboard.
However, it’s not just that one caveat playing into the hands of the Palmer camp.
As Frankie told us himself earlier in the week, a bit of rain would only serve to increase Galileo Gold’s chances of success at Newmarket.
And with 8mm falling on Thursday night and the going switching from good to good to soft it seems that connections have got their wish.

It’ll still be a tough ask. Air Force Blue handler Aidan O’Brien isn’t chasing a record eighth renewal success simply because he’s been very fortunate.
The Master of Ballydoyle has made no secret of the regard he holds or last season’s imperious Dewhurst winner and anything but an AFB victory would be a shock.
However, the conditions and the market signs are looking positive for Palmer, Dettori and co.
Having once been a 33/1 shot, GG has emerged as one of the dark horses of 2016’s first Classic.
