WATCH: Steely Stenny snatch a late win against strugglers Forfar

Published:

For clubs in a relegation battle, it never rains but it pours. After securing five points in three matches to topple Cowdenbeath from the eighth-place spot, doom and gloom has returned for Forfar Athletic.

Marc Gilhaney opened the scoring for Stenhousemuir in the 12th minute with an inch-perfect curled shot, after the ball broke kindly to him.

The home side had several chances to double their lead at Ochilview, but a combination of the bar and Loons ‘keeper Darren Hill kept them out.

With nine minutes remaining, some wing wizardry from Forfar set up ex-Partick Thistle man Steven Craig, who calmly stroked home the equaliser.

However, in the dying moments, Stenny striker Colin McMenamin rose highest to nod home with a cushioned header, giving the home side all three points and leaving Forfar’s devastated defenders with their heads in their hands.

The result means Stenhousemuir jump to 36 points whilst Forfar are on 30, ahead of Brechin City – who occupy the automatic relegation spot – on goal difference only.

Forfar look to bounce back this weekend and are 9/4 to win against promotion hopefuls Peterhead, who also lost their last game, a 1-0 defeat to Cowdenbeath. Stenhousemuir travel to Brechin in a crucial clash, with the visitors 8/5 to triumph.

And newly-crowned Ladbrokes League One champions Dunfermline Athletic look to continue their run of four consecutive away wins when they head from Fife to Albion Rovers on Saturday. The Pars are 4/7 to continue their winning run on the road.
