Tottenham v Arsenal: The stakes have never been higher

Published:

No quarter is ever given when Tottenham and Arsenal collide, but with both teams chasing a Premier League title, the 183rd North London derby could be one of the very best.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs missed the chance to go top with defeat at West Ham on Wednesday night, while Arsenal’s hopes were also dented after a shock loss at home to Swansea.

With Tottenham three points off Leicester and Arsenal a further three behind, the stakes are huge with just ten games of the season remaining.

The Lilywhites are 13/10 favourites for victory at White Hart Lane, with Arsenal a 2/1 shot and a draw priced at 23/10.

Harry Kane scored twice in this fixture last season with Spurs winning 2-1, and we’re boosting Kane to score and Tottenham to win from 12/5 to 7/2.

The Englishman also netted in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates earlier this season, and is 9/2 to open the scoring and 6/4 anytime.

Arsenal’s woes were compounded late on Wednesday night as Petr Cech pulled up with a hamstring injury in the dying moments, but the Gunners can take heart from the fact that they have already won at the Lane this season.

Mathieu Flamini scored twice in a 2-1 win over Spurs in the Capital One Cup, and we’re enhancing Arsenal to win and both teams to score from 4/1 to 5/1.

The red half of north London has lost its last three games in all competitions, but derby matches are famous for throwing the form book out of the window.

Both teams have scored in each of the last four and 12 of the last 15 north London derbies, and it’s 8/13 that Hugo Lloris and Arsenal stand-in David Ospina are beaten today.

One of Tottenham’s strong points this season has been their ability to come from behind, picking up more points from losing positions than any Premier League side this term.

Spurs are 6/1 to come from behind and draw, while its 10/1 they turn it around and win after being behind.

Either way, the 11/10 on Arsenal to score first could be a savvy option.

It’s the first time in a generation that both sides have so much on the line at this stage of the campaign, so we should be in a belting north London derby.
