Ross County need to rally to secure top-half split spot

Published:

With just a handful of games remaining ahead of the Ladbrokes Premiership split, the pressure is on for those sides in around the mid-table bubble, and that includes Scottish League Cup winners Ross County.

The Staggies sit sixth in the table, three points ahead of Dundee and Partick, but with each of those sides possessing a game in hand on Jim McIntyre’s men.

If the Highland side were to drop out of the top half in the closing weeks it would be a cruel blow to the team, having occupied a place in the sharp end since the second weekend of the campaign.

But County will need to pull their collective finger out to ensure their place, having struggled for wins in 2016.

The Dingwall club have won just three league games since the turn of the year, suffering six defeats, the latest of which a 3-0 loss to rivals Inverness.

With their remaining two fixtures seeing them come up against the two sides directly below them however, County won’t be lacking for motivation.

The Staggies head to Dens Park a week on Saturday a huge clash with Dundee, before rounding off the regular season with what could become a must-win tie at home to Partick.

Still on course for what will arguably be regarded as one of the biggest season’s in Dingwall history, to miss out on a top six spot at the final hurdle would be a nasty blow to suffer for the Staggies.
