Reaction as Man City handed tough PSG Champions League draw

Published:

Manchester City will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions quarter-finals, ensuring the competition will have a brand new semi finalist.

The meeting between these two billionaire-backed clubs will showcase the best that money can buy in football, with plenty of big names set to strut their stuff at the Etihad and the Parc des Princes.

These two have only ever played each ever once before, with a 0-0 draw in the UEFA Cup back in 2008 their last meeting.

The tie itself presents a real opportunity for both teams to show how much of a big force they can now be in European football given their poor records in recent years.

City have never made it this far in the Champions League before, while the Parisiens have fallen at this stage in all of the last three seasons.

Clearly the bookies don’t have faith in the Premier League side progressing, with the odds of seeing Manuel Pellegrini’s men lift the trophy drifting from 14/1 to 16/1, while PSG remain 8/1 shots.

Elsewhere in the draw, the all-Spanish clash between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in a repeat of their 2013/14 quarter-final clash particularly catches the eye.

Atleti emerged victorious in that tie, advancing with a 2-1 aggregate win en route to making the final.

Since then the two La Liga giants have met another seven times across all competitions with Barca going unbeaten and winning six.

Having drawn the best club side on the planet it’s unsurprising that Atletico’s chances of lifting the trophy have rocketed from 11/1, out to 18s with Ladbrokes.
Repeating the heroics of 2014, when Real Madrid pipped them to the title, will now be an even greater achievement in light of this draw.

The other quarter-final clash sees ten-time winners Real Madrid go up against 100/1 outsiders Wolfsburg.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
