Napoli star’s agent confirms Arsenal interest

The times are very much changing at Arsenal, at least they very well could be this summer with a host of farewells and hellos expected in the red half of north London.

With Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta set to depart, plus continued speculation over Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future, boss Arsene Wenger is preparing for a busy summer in the transfer market.

Famously – or infamously – buying no outfield players before this campaign kicked off, Arsenal have seen their hopes of any trophy evaporate in recent weeks, and there’s little question that the Gunners need extra quality.

Napoli star Jorginho appears to be high on the list, with the 24-year-old’s agent confirming that Arsenal are interested in the Brazilian.

Real Madrid are also rumoured to be in the hunt for a player who has become integral to Gli Azzurri this season.

Jorginho has missed just three of his side’s 29 Serie A appearances this term, keeping things ticking over superbly in his holding midfield role.

Napoli are just three points off Juventus in what is their strongest title challenge for years, and Jorginho’s form has also brought rumours of a late dash into Antonio Conte’s Italy squad for this year’s European Championships.

Raised in Italy, Jorginho began his career with Hellas Verona, playing a big part in their promotion to Serie A in 2013.

A fine start to the following campaign – including seven goals – saw Napoli come calling in January 2014 and he immediately slotted in to the first team.

Valued at £11.25m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Napoli are likely to demand far in excess of £25m with four years still to run on Jorginho’s contract.

However, with Francis Coquelin the only first-team holding player under 30 on Wenger’s books, and growing pressure on the Frenchman to bring quality to the team, Arsenal may be rather happy indeed to shell out the big money for a man hotly tipped for big things in the coming years.
