Mullins claims three winners on day one at Cheltenham

Unless you were living under a rock, you’ll be plenty aware that the Cheltenham Festival roared into life today, and with it came a host of potential opening day winners for Willie Mullins.

We put it to our Twitter followers to tell us how many of Mullins’ charges would be entering the winner’s enclosure today.

And it seems you couldn’t quite make up your minds, with 34 per cent saying three winners, and 31 per cent going for two.

Over a quarter of you fancied Mullins to count four or more winners today, while seven per cent said only one would come home first.

And after a belting day’s racing, all kicked off by that famous roar, it turns out that the 34 per cent of you who said three victorious charges were bang on the money.

Things got off to an inauspicious start, when Mullins and favourite Min were beaten by Altior in the curtain-raising Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

The first winner wasn’t far away however, with heavy favourite Douvan running to success in the Arkle, but some will wonder if Vaniteux would have pipped him but for a late fall.

Ruby Walsh then came up trumps with Annie Power to storm to victory in the Champion Hurdle, making up for last year’s infamous fall at the last.

The fun didn’t stop there as Vroum Vroum Mag handed Walsh and Mullins after cruising to glory in the Mares’ Hurdle to make it three winners on Day One.
