Motherwell v Dundee United: Rejuvenated United can trouble hosts

Published:

Motherwell host Dundee United tonight in the Ladbrokes Premiership, and though there may be 15 points and five positions between them in the table, the hosts could be in for a trying evening.

Well are in fine form, having won three of their last four fixtures, but Mixu Paatelainen’s United have been a very difficult bunch to beat in recent weeks.

A 3-2 win at Ross County last weekend put the Terrors in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, and they’ve lost just two of their last six Premiership ties too.

Aberdeen could only claim a 1-0 win in the Tannadice club’s last league fixture, and though they remain favourites to finish bottom this term, United are fighting hard.

The Tangerines are 15/8 to win tonight and go to within five points of Kilmarnock, while Mark McGhee’s hosts are 7/5 favourites.

A draw is 12/5, but that hasn’t happened in any of the last nine meetings between the sides.

United will be confident of grabbing at least a goal tonight, with Well maintaining just three clean sheets at Fir Park this season.

With that in mind, we’re boosting the home side to win and both teams to score from 10/3 to 4/1.

Ironically however, it was the 3-0 defeat by Motherwell at home three weeks ago, which has seemingly inspired United’s recent turnaround and makes them a real threat tonight.

Regarded by many as a significant low point for the club, Paatelainen has since rallied his troops, leading the club to victory in three of their four subsequent matches.

Both sides have plenty to play for tonight, with Motherwell closing in on a top-half spot ahead of the split, and United desperate to continue their bid for a great escape.
