Ladbrokes SPFL: Peterhead hit four to keep the pressure on

Though minus a couple of fixtures in the Championship, it was another busy weekend in the Ladrbokes SPFL with plenty of drama across the land.

In the Championship Falkirk went to Dumbarton in the hope of maintaining their hold on second place, while Alloa went in search of their first home win of the campaign

Dunfermline and Peterhead face away trips in League 1, while Elgin tried to avoid slipping up at Clyde in League 2.

Here’s your round-up of the weekend’s action…

Ladbrokes Championship

With Rangers and Hibernian not in action, Falkirk had the chance to strengthen their grip on second place, but a last-gasp equaliser at Dumbarton dented their hopes.

The visitors went 1-0 up through John Baird’s penalty, but in the dying moments Danny Rogers brought down Chrsitian Nade and Garry Fleming converted to ensure a share of the spoils.

Alloa suffered late heartache too, as Raith denied Athletic a long-awaited first home win of the season.

Scott Gallacher denied Rovers time and time again, before Steven Hetherington put the hosts ahead shortly after the hour.

Just as a first three-point haul of the campaign looked secure however, up popped Kyle Benedictus in injury-time at Recreation Park.

The final match of the weekend saw St Mirren beat Queen of the South 2-1, with the decisive moment an unfortunate own goal from Callum Tapping.

Ladbrokes League 1

Peterhead kept the pressure on league leaders Dunfermline with a fine 4-1 win away at Stenhousemuir.

A Shane Sutherland brace, plus strikes from Jamie Stevenson and Leighton McIntosh consigned Stenny to a fifth game without a win.

A Fassail El Bakhtaoui double was enough for Dunfermline to down early-season hopefuls Ayr 2-0, while bottom side Brechin claimed a third straight win with the same scoreline at Airdrie to close within two points of the teams above.

Stranraer sent Albion to a fifth game without victory with a 1-0 result at Cliftonhill, while Forfar and Cowdenbeath shared a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the opening four minutes.

Ladbrokes League 2

As is now almost customary, we have a change of leader in League 2 with East Fife now at the helm.

The Fifers saw off Annan 4-2 at Bayview Stadium, thanks to doubles from Jamie Insall and Jonathan Page, while previous leaders Elgin City lost at Barry Ferguson’s in form Clyde 1-0.

Clyde are up to third, with Queen’s Park fourth after a 1-1 draw at Montrose, while rejuvenated Berwick claimed a fourth clean sheet in succession with a 1-0 win over Stirling.

Finally, Arbroath left East Stirling eight points adrift at the bottom with a 3-0 victory.
