Ladbrokes SPFL: Falkirk stun Gers as Raith down Hibs

The arrival of spring clearly had an impact across the Ladbrokes SPFL this weekend, with a host of sides bursting into life in a weekend which saw thrills and spills up and down the leagues.
There were plenty of surprises in the Ladbrokes Championship, while the leading pair were both given a difficult outing in Ladbrokes League 1, and it was a very good weekend for the top half teams in Ladbrokes League 2.
It was a net-busting weekend too with some 55 goals fired in across the 15 matches averaging over 3.5 goals a game, so it wasn’t a productive one for those backing teams to win to nil.
With the dust settled on an all-action few days of football, here’s your weekend round-up…
Ladbrokes Championship
The headline clash came on Friday night as Falkirk stunned Rangers and all of the Ladbrokes SPFL with a thrilling fightback.
Mark Warburton’s Gers raced into a 2-0 lead inside nine minutes, but a thrilling final 20 saw the hosts turn the game on its head.
Goals from Blair Alston and Myles Hippolyte made it all-square five with just over ten minutes to go, before Robert McHugh sent the home fans wild with the winner deep into stoppage time.
The result was Rangers’ first defeat since December 19 when they lost, yep, away at Falkirk. Funny how things go sometimes.
Hibernian suffered a fourth straight defeat, as Raith came from behind to win 2-1 at Stark’s Park to leave the Hibees six points behind the Bairns with two games in hand.
It was a bad weekend for goalkeepers as a Lawrence Shankland double helped St Mirren to a 3-2 success at Livingston, Declan McManus also grabbed a brace as Morton hammered Alloa 4-1, and Queen of the South ended a three-game losing streak in style with a 6-0 thrashing of Dumbarton at Palmerston Park.
Ladbrokes League 1
Dunfermline and Peterhead both left it pretty late this weekend, but the leading pair each managed to claim three points in the end.
Rhys McCabe was the hero for the Pars with just his second goal of the season to bag the winner nine minutes from time to beat Cowdenbeath 1-0, while Andy Rodgers handed Peterhead the same victorious scoreline with just 15 remaining at home to Airdrie.
Cowden’s defeat saw them slip to the foot of the table as Forfar beat Ayr 3-1 and Brechin won a fourth game on the spin thanks to two goals in the final ten minutes at home to Airdrie.
The division’s final game saw Stranraer increase their hold on fourth with a 3-1 win at home to Stenhousemuir.
Ladbrokes League 2
The destination of this year’s League 2 title is still very much an open debate, with five teams still holding realistic ambitions of claiming this season’s trophy.
Annan had Matthew Flynn to thank for their late winner at home to Berwick, while a thrilling game at East Stirling saw Barry Ferguson’s Clyde prevail 4-2 despite a sending off for David Marsh.
Elgin saw their championship hopes hit after dropping more points in a 1-1 draw with Montrose, while East Fife ran riot to score four in the final 20 minutes at Stirling Albion, having already netted twice in the opening 16 to win 6-0.
The final game of the weekend was another to see late drama as Ryan McGeever consigned Arbroath to a sixth defeat in eight with an injury time winner for Queen’s Park.
