Ladbrokes Premiership: Rogic Rocket Saves Celtic Whilst Dons Lose

Published:

Aberdeen’s title challenge came unstuck at Fir Park on a weekend which saw two pulsating derbies and a goal of the season contender in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

The weekend began with Celtic’s trip to Kilmarnock, with the home side looking to end a run of five games without a win. In a hard-fought and gripping contest, it took a moment of last-minute magic to settle the game.

Kris Boyd and Leigh Griffiths had chances for both sides respectively, before the Hoops’ Danish centre-back Eric Sviatchenko saw his goalbound header cleared on the line by Julien Faubert. But with the game seemingly heading for a draw, Celtic’s Tom Rogic fired home a sensational long-range strike, to send the travelling support wild.

Aberdeen seemed set to keep pace with the leaders after Kenny McClean’s first half penalty gave the on form Dons the lead at Motherwell. However, Mark McGhee’s side fought back with two quick-fire goals; the first from Scott McDonald, and the second a cheeky flick from Louis Moult.

Elsewhere, a dramatic Dundee Derby saw United snatch a point, with a Billy McKay double rescuing a game in which Dundee had led 2-0.

In Dingwall, it was a rather more one-sided affair, as Inverness CT strolled to a comfortable 3-0 win over Ross County, the same scoreline which St. Johnstone managed in their surprise away win at Hearts.

The weekend’s results leave Celtic four points above Aberdeen with a game in hand, whilst Motherwell jump to fifth place and Inverness give themselves some much-needed breathing space in the fight against relegation.
