Kane double sees Vardy ousted as Golden Boot favourite

Among all the euphoria about Leicester’s incredible yet evermore probably Premier League title, is that the race for the Golden Boot saw a new favourite emerge at the weekend.

Harry Kane’s double for Tottenham in their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday brought the England man level with international team-mate Jamie Vardy on 19.

But after the Leicester striker failed to score last night, Kane became favourite to claim this season’s top scorer accolade at 6/4, with Vardy slipping to 2/1.

The pair are just one goal ahead of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian revelling in Roberto Martinez’s attack-minded tactics to bag 18 times so far.

Lukaku is 3/1 third favourite, with the only other realistic contender being none other than Sergio Aguero.

Man City’s goal extraordinaire is 4/1 to claim a second successive Golden Boot, but he has some work to do with his 16 strikes this season currently leaving the Argentine three goals off the pace.

With eight goals in his last eight Premier League games however, Aguero is very much the form man of the quartet.

His team may have been picking up win after win, but Vardy hasn’t scored in four matches, and has four strikes in his last 14 league appearances, stretching back to before Christmas.

It’s Kane who has been Mr Consistency, after opening without a goal in his first four games of the season, Tottenham’s number 10 hasn’t gone more than three matches without netting.

As for Lukaku, he’s netted three in four Premier League ties, but it’s his double against Chelsea in the FA Cup last weekend which firmly reminded us all just what sort of form the 22-year-old is in right now.

The title race may be narrowing down to a two-horse contest, but the fight for the Golden Boot is still very much an epic four-way encounter.
