How Twitter reacted to Conor McGregor’s UFC defeat
Published:Conor McGregor’s move up in the UFC weights didn’t work out too well, as his first foray in the welterweight division ended with a surprising second-round defeat to Nate Diaz at UFC 196.
Tapping out in submission, the Irishman suffered just the third loss of career and sent Twitter ablaze with the result. It was a night full of surprises, as women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm, who shocked Ronda Rousey to win the title, also lost.
Here’s the best of Twitter’s reaction to the night of upsets.
One of the first to respond was the man McGregor was originally supposed to fight
Soft!!!!

Dos Anjos wasn’t the only fighter to take aim at the Irishman though and Jose Aldo, knocked out in the first round last time, was quick to demand a rematch with McGregor
See ya at #UFC200, @TheNotoriousMMA. Your fairy tale is over. You got nowhere to run now. Time to a rematch, pussy. pic.twitter.com/67fmic8qxG

The name of the nightclub hosting McGregor’s afterparty was ironic

Although McGregor took the limelight even in defeat, many praised Diaz
McGregor largely owned the first seven minutes. Diaz rallied w/ all this tools. He’s nearly impossible to put away, proved as much. WOW.

As an odds-on favourite to prevail, McGregor’s loss likely left a lot of punters short
If you wagered on McGregor tonight, I guess you’re not… Dublin your money. #UFC196
