Forget Aubameyang, Man United should target current Prem ace

Manchester United are apparently attempting to scupper Arsenal’s hopes of landing summer transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the Old Trafford club holding secret talks with the Gabon international.
Arsenal are said to be keen on landing the Borussia Dortmund forward and believed themselves to be in pole position but United are ready to blow the Gunners out of the water with a £60m bid for the 26-year-old.
A quick look at Aubameyang’s stats for the season indicate why he is generating such interest with 35 goals from 40 games in all competitions plus 11 assists.
However, United could be better off looking a little closer to home where Tottenham’s Harry Kane offers similarly-impressive stats, is four years Aubameyang’s junior, is proven in the English top flight and could be available for less than the £60m quoted to acquire the Dortmund striker’s services.
Kane has forced those who wrote him off as a one season wonder to eat their words with 24 goals and two assists from 43 games this season.
He has also proven to be more than just a fox in the box type striker with his positioning, link-up play and eye for the spectacular all coming to the fore this season.
Should Spurs go on to beat Leicester to the Premier League crown it is unlikely the England forward will seek to leave White Hart Lane but should the Lilywhites lose out to the Foxes and United secure Champions League football a deal could be in the offing.
Spurs fans are desperate for the board to prove they have moved on from being the club that sold the likes of Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United and Luka Modric and Gareth Bale to Real Madrid but a bid of £45m+ would certainly test chairman Daniel levy’s resolve.
Kane is 8/15 to be crowned Premier League top scorer this season and if United are to reclaim their place at the top of English football it is the Londoner and not the Gabonese who could prove the safer bet.
