Everton v Chelsea: Blues to bounce back from Champions League defeat

Published:

Chelsea’s Champions League dream may be over for another year but Guus Hiddink can move a step closer to landing some silverware with an FA Cup triumph over Everton this weekend.

With the last meetings between the two ending 3-3 and the Toffees winning the match prior to that 3-1 some could be tempted to back the Merseysiders to add to the Blues’ woes.

However, a look further back shows that Chelsea have had the best of this fixture in recent years and the Stamford Bridge outfit look good value at 17/10.

Hiddink may have seen his side beaten 4-2 on aggregate by PSG but the Dutchman is yet to taste defeat on the domestic scene since rejoining the west Londoners in December.

That run has now lasted 15 games making the 6/4 on an Everton win less appealing, however, with seven of those games ending in a stalemate it could pay to take the 12/5 that says this one ends all square.

One thing looks to be certain, though, and that is a glut of goals with 20 netted in the last four meetings between the pair.

With this in mind the 4/5 on over 2.5 goals looks a sure thing for those willing to place large stakes, while the 15/8 on over 3.5 and 9/2 on over 4.5 could also prove shrewd bets.

And with goals flying in at both ends it would be foolhardy not to back the likes of Diego Costa (9/5), Romelu Lukaku (6/4), Ross Barkley (5/2) and Willian (14/5) to get on the scoresheet at any time.

Taking the above into account and noting that three of the last four games have seen both sides find the back of the net, however, the 15/4 suggesting Chelsea win with both teams scoring looks to be the best bet for this quarter-final encounter.
