Euro 2016: How do the new kits measure up?

Published:

Amongst all the hype in the build up to a major tournament comes the bi-annual fascination over each team’s newest kits, and this summer is proving to be no different.

And with this year’s event in France seeing an extra eight teams join the fold, that means a whole host of new designs for us to salivate over or recoil away from in horror.

With everybody from tournament debutants Albania and Iceland to seasoned veterans Italy and Germany, there’s a huge range of new strips to wear with pride.

We’ve picked a few of this summer’s outfits which have caused quite a stir…

England

The Three Lions revealed a sleek white home number with some toned shoulder lining, with the away kit featuring red shirt and shorts but blue socks.

A quick look at the comments suggest the home kit might not be a big seller this summer…

Wales

Ahead of the Red Dragon’s Euro bow, Wales revealed in the autumn they’ll be sporting a very trim and traditional home shirt.

Gone are the thin white vertical stripes down the front and green stripes across the shoulders are now white, leaving a smart, crisp and brilliantly red entry instead.

Northern Ireland

The Green and White Army will be joining Wales in making their European Championship debut, but their home kit – featuring a strong dose of blue – hasn’t gone down well with fans.

Republic of Ireland

Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland are keeping things pretty traditional with their jersey as they bid to make amends for a winless tournament four years ago.

France

As hosts Les Blues needed to look sharp, and by all accounts they’ll do just that with this home and away duo.

Croatia

Always worth keeping an eye out for a notable entry and Croatia won’t be disappointing with this effort.

Spain

It may look like a 1993 Division 3 strip, but they say time is a healer and Spain’s retro-looking away number is proving very popular.

As for the home effort, it’s all very, err, 1998.

Sweden

With what could be Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s final international tournament, Sweden needed to step it up.

They’ve certainly come up trumps with a tidy yet unmissible home number, while some may fancy the away effort for a new pair of pyjamas…
