Defeat to East Stirling not an option says Montrose man

After losing to then-bottom club Berwick Rangers at the weekend it appears Montrose are in danger of slipping back into a scrap at the bottom of the table.
The Gable Endies’ 1-0 loss to the Borderers on Saturday now means that they cannot afford to slip up to East Stirling on Saturday according to midfielder Terry Mason.
Defeat to The Shire could see the club just two points clear of 10th place if Berwick get anything from Queen’s Park, as Montrose’s focus shifts again.
“Before the Berwick result we were looking the other way, we were looking at the play-offs above us,” the midfielder told the Montrose Review.
“I think if we’d got something off of Berwick and then East Stirling we’d have been very comfy.
“It makes next week an even bigger game for us because we have to take something from it. If they take anything from the game we’ll be feeling the pressure a bit more.
“The last thing we want is two defeats because then we will become very nervous.”
Those nerves would be reflected in the betting should Paul Hegarty’s men slip up at the weekend, with the current price of 12/1 on them finishing bottom of the pile sure to shorten.
Their price has already halved in the past week following the Berwick loss, but has some way to go to match the 11/8 that they were in January.
Much could depend on the form striker Gary Fraser who has bagged 15 goals this season and is a currently third-favourite to top the scoring charts in the division.
In the 13 games Fraser has found the back of the net in this term, Montrose have lost just three, form that would safely avoid being dragged into a scrap to avoid the wooden spoon.
He’s bagged four goals in his last seven league fixtures and has looked worthy of his place back in the SPFL after a spell in junior football.
So the plan for Montrose looks simple; get Fraser scoring and pick up the points needed to quell any nerves about a potential drop out of the league.
