Arsenal eyeing up Serie A hotshot amid Sanchez woe

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a big summer bid for a striker to fill the hole vacated by Alexis Sanchez’s dip in form during his second season at the Emirates.

Reports in Italy have emerged linking Arsene Wenger with a move for AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca, who has scored for fun this season in Serie A.

Sanchez quickly won the adoration of Gooners after joining the club from Barcelona in the summer of 2014, netting 25 times in his debut campaign including a stunner in his side’s FA Cup final win over Aston Villa.

However the tricky second season has seen injury hamper Sanchez’s campaign, and the Chilean has only 11 strikes to his name this term, and just two in his last 14.

Bacca is second in this season’s Serie A goalscoring charts with 14 from 30 league appearances, and the Colombian has been a consistent scorer since leaving his native land in 2011.

Signed by Club Brugge that summer, Bacca netted 31 times in 54 appearances for the Belgian club before joining Sevilla in 2013, where another fruitful two campaigns saw 49 goals scored in 108 games.

With AC shelling out €30m for the forward less than 12 months ago, Arsenal are going to have to go big if they want to bring in the 29-year-old.

But with their only recognised world class striker failing to perform, perhaps it’s something the Arsenal board may just think can be vindicated as they head toward the conclusion of what is likely to be a trophy-less season for the red half of north London.
