Why Inter Milan failure will please Man United fans
Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool aside, Manchester United supporters are rarely interested in the failures of other clubs but Red Devils fans will be hoping Inter Milan continue to struggle in Serie A this season, if recent reports are to be believed.
The latest transfer rumour doing the rounds claims that Inter will accept a bid of £34.9m for their talismanic captain should they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
I Nerazzurri currently sit outside Italy’s top three, 11 points behind leaders Napoli, nine points behind second place Juventus and one point behind Fiorentina in the last Champions League spot with 14 games to go.
United are said to have failed to land Icardi with a January bid and while the San Siro outfit are confident of overtaking la Viola in the coming weeks they would let their man go if they fail to break into the top three.
Icardi, 22, has smashed 46 goals in just 92 games for Inter, including 10 in 22 appearances this term and earned his move to the Milan side after hitting 11 goals in 33 games for Sampdoria as teenager.
United have seen the form of both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial improve in recent weeks but the club is in need of more firepower and the Argentine certainly fits the bill.
The Red Devils travel to Sunderland this weekend hoping to build on a 1-1 draw with Chelsea last timeout.
The visitors can be backed at 3/4 to add to the Black Cats’ relegation fears, while a home win is on at 15/4 and the draw available at 5/2.
However, with Juan Mata seemingly playing for his United career – rumoured new manager Jose Mourinho is not a fan – the Spaniard could be good value at 11/5 to net at any time and 7/1 to strike first.
